Methodology

My WvW build philosophy.

This page explains how I think a character should be prepared for WvW. Since each character has nine equipment and build template slots, I use those slots to cover the situations I expect to face: small fights, large fights, and a few specialized roles.

Slots

The nine-slot setup

Small Scale

Slots 1-3

Roaming, duo play, havoc, and small-group fights. Slot 1 is the default recommendation; slot 3 can be more specialized or experimental.

Large Scale

Slots 4-6

Zerg and squad play where boon coverage, role clarity, commander calls, and fight timing matter more than isolated duels.

Niche

Slots 7-9

Specialized builds for jobs that do not fit cleanly into the small-scale or large-scale rows.

Tiers are subjective ratings for each profession and slot. They are not a global ranking across the whole game.

Filters

Tag glossary

Damage type and range type are separate build fields. These tags add the fight context: scale, role identity, combat function, and comp fit. Select a tag to return to the builds with that filter applied.

Scale Tags

5 tags

Where the build is meant to fight: roaming, zerg, havoc, or other fight sizes.

Archetype Tags

10 tags

What the build broadly is: duelist, support, bruiser, roamer, bunker, and similar identities.

Function Tags

19 tags

What it contributes in a fight: cleanse, burst, boon strip, mobility, pressure, control, or sustain.

Comp Tags

11 tags

How it fits a squad or group composition: party role, commander context, and organized-play purpose.
